Customizing Track Layouts
If you right-click on any track in the Track Control Panel or Mixer, you can adjust track height, color, visibility, or give a track a custom icon to set it apart visually. You can also mouse over the bottom of a track and click and drag to increase the height.
Track Height
When you right-click a track in the Track Control Panel or Mix Control Panel, you can set the track height for all, or selected tracks. Right-click Height and then any of the height options.
Track Visibility
Sometimes you might not want to see a track, but you don't want to delete it. In this case, you can make the track disappear in the Track Control Panel, the Mix Control Panel, or both.
Right-click a track in the Track Control Panel or Mix Control Panel, and select one of the visibility options.
Color Coding Tracks
You can set the color on any track in the Track Control Panel or Mix Control Panel, by right-clicking the track, selecting Color' > Set to custom color. But you might want to set up an auto color/auto icon process, instead.
Auto Color/Icon/Layout
You can set Reaper up to automatically color and slap an icon on tracks. There's a full video tutorial on how to auto color a track and add an icon, based on the track name, here.
Track Spacers
Track spacers visually separate tracks. They make it intuitively easier to see what's going on in your tracks, at a glance.
You'll find the track spacer options in the Default menu for wherever your working (Track Control Panel or Mix Control Panel).
Exploring Reaper's Theme Options
Reaper offers an impressive array of theme options that you can easily explore and apply to customize your workspace. I have an article and videos about Reaper themes, and how to find and install them.
When browsing, don't skip over the user feedback. It's a goldmine for understanding the benefits and potential issues of each theme. Other users' experiences can guide you away from theme compatibility issues and towards those that enhance your workflow.
Pay attention to the upload dates and sizes too; they provide clues about the theme's currency and complexity.
Installing your chosen theme is typically a breeze. A double-click usually does the trick, but keep an eye out for any that need extra configuration files. These are rare, but you'll need to follow the included instructions closely to make sure everything works smoothly.
