Displaying FX In Reaper

Arranging Effects Windows

FX Displayed

Reaper, with floating FX displayed across the window.

Working with effects in Reaper extends beyond simply applying plugins to tracks - the strategic arrangement of effects windows plays a role in maintaining an efficient workflow.

For organization and efficiency, consider these key approaches to arranging your effects windows:

  1. The FX button on any track opens up a list of FX on that track, but you can only see the GUI of one interface at a time, so . . .
  2. Double click on an effect, to float it
  3. Use the pin function (top, right-hand corner of some windows) to keep FX on top
  4. You can also float FX by right-clicking on an FX button on a track/channel
  5. Utilize the drag-and-drop functionality to position FX windows in convenient locations

Some plug-ins don't resize well. Later versions of plug-ins tend to be more likely to be able to resize, so keep 'em updated!

To de-clutter your workspace further, you can embed FX in the tracks themselves. This allows you to keep the main window clear. It's easy -- just right-click on the effect name and choose to embed the effect in the TCP or in the mixer (MCP).
